As a young child, Yumi was Disorderly and Boisterous. But once she joined the establishment she began to develop more respectful traits. After years of training, she learned to use tact and wit in order to succeed within her career. To her many clients, she poses as a flirtatious young woman. She is always cheerful and mysterious, serving her clients unconditionally. Yumi is always good natured however sometimes employs her child like craftiness to gently tease her clients. 

She rarely emerges from her life within the establishment, resulting in a lack of friends and partners. As a courtesan, it is hard to find someone who is willing to commit to a relationship with her as her work is usually of a sexual nature. She finds herself often feeling lonely as her one night stands never really result in any form of comfort. On the off chance she meets someone new, she is courteous but shy. Since she spent most of her teenage years serving other people, she failed to develop a good social standing, often finding herself clueless on how to treat friends and even a potential lover.

Yumi’s temper is surprisingly short. She can be fairly unforgiving if an adult makes simple mistakes leading to her being hindered. Her words can often become harsh and dismissing. In the rare occurence that someone talks down to her due to her chosen profession, she is known to manhandle the person and make sure they will never speak ill of the profession again.  On the other hand, if a child or one of her underlings make a mistake she will correct them harshly but without the added heat of her anger.

In the care of her grandmother, Yumi lived a relatively simple life with little indulgencies. She was uneducated and unruly, often terrorizing her neighbour’s cattle or participating in small scale poaching in the local orchard. When she turned eleven years old, her grandmother became unwell and unable to fully support the two of them. Thus her grandmother took to asking a dear friend to take her in as a kumuro, a servant girl for a courtesan.

Alas, this was the start of Yumi’s career in the establishment. In the early days as a Kumuro, she was taught basic etiquette and skills, doing away with her unruly nature. She worked every day, only taking a Saturday afternoon off to see her grandmother. The winter of her thirteenth birthday, her Grandmother passed away in her sleep. For the first time in two years Yumi took a short break to mourn the passing of her last family member. Soon after her grandmothers passing, Yumi was promoted to a Shinzo, a courtesan in training, and threw herself into her career.

Over the years, she collected a multitude of skills including learning to play the flute and the ability to dance elegantly, making her unrecognisable to her younger self. No longer uneducated, her clients generally consisted of men with political or military background who duly appreciated her thoughtful and entertaining conversations.

By the time she reached twenty, she had charmed herself to the top of her career, a high ranking Courtesan. Far from the simple child she once was, she now lives in a private quarter, indulging in fine luxuries she could never have dreamt of possessing. She rarely takes a break from her work, leaving her horizons small.
